What I’ve been using lately to clean my home

One thing we haven’t talked about is household cleaners. Let’s discuss!

I’ve been using the Environmental Working Group to help me choose cleaning options for my home. They have a database that gives safety ratings for over 2,500 household products. The cleaning products database is a bit different than the cosmetics database in that it uses grades A-F, instead of numbers.

The database also lists how harmful each product is based on the following concerns:

  • Asthma/Respiratory
  • Skin Allergies & Irritation
  • Developmental & Reproductive Toxicity
  • Cancer
  • Environment

You’ll have to decide what’s most important to you and what grade you’re ok with. I’d love to show you what I’m currently using in my home.

Kitchen and Bathroom Cleaners

To clean my bathroom counter and shower, I’ve been using Greenshield Organic’s Bathroom Cleaner in Bergamot Mint. (I couldn’t find a direct link, but have shown you above what it looks like.)

To clean my kitchen counter, I’ve been using Greenshield Organic’s All-Purpose Cleaner in Fresh Lemon.

These two products are not exactly the same as more traditional products. Companies often add scents to their products to make you think they’re cleaning your home. Sometimes it’s those scents that are the most harmful. If you’re aiming to cut down on your overall exposure to chemicals, these I’ve listed are great options!

Dish Soap

I tried several dish soap options before finding this Planet Dishwashing Liquid. Compared to the others I’ve tried, this one definitely produces more suds and I think it really works. It cuts grease and isn’t too harsh on your hands. It can be hard to find at a good price so you may have to search for it.

Laundry Detergent

Laundry detergent was the first product I switched out when aiming to find better options. I use it so often and I use it on my entire wardrobe so it was an important item to me to switch. I’ve always had sensitive skin so I have used non-scented products for a long time. This Whole Foods product was a great option and was an easy transition for me. (I couldn’t find a direct link, but have shown you above what it looks like.)

When I ran out of the Whole Foods detergent, I picked up this Greenshield Organic Free & Clear Laundry Detergent. I love that it’s highly concentrated and it cleans my clothes well.

Do you have questions about any of the products I’ve listed above?
