Making the switch to natural beauty products

A lot of people ask me which personal care products to switch out first when moving towards cleaner beauty options. My answer is always the same: I recommend switching out the products you use most frequently first. After that, I’d replace the products that cover the most amount of skin.

Tinted Moisturizer

I’ve already admitted to you that I don’t wear a lot of makeup on a daily basis. But I do wear tinted moisturizer almost every day so that was an important switch for me. Right now, I’m loving Suntegrity “5 in 1” tinted moisturizer in medium, MDSolarSciences tinted moisturizer, and Juice Beauty CC Cream in warm glow. I’m less concerned about switching out eye shadows for instance because I tend to only wear them for special occasions. You can determine what you use most and what would make sense for you.

Deodorant

Another product I use every day is deodorant. (I know you’re happy to hear that.) Making the switch to a more natural deodorant is admittedly hard and I’ll be honest, it takes time for your body to adjust. I’ve tried several natural deodorants and my favorites are Soapwalla deodorant cream, Meow Meow Tweet deodorant sticks, and People’s Pharmacy roll-on deodorant. I’ll write a longer post all about deodorant if anyone is interested!

Shampoo

One other product I switched out right away was shampoo. I shared my current favorites in a previous post.

Daily Moisturizer

We all know our skin is our biggest organ. Therefore another item to consider switching out is your daily body moisturizer. Environmental Working Group has a great list of moisturizer options to choose from and lists them according to their score.

I know it can be expensive to switch everything out at once. I would never recommend that, although that is the approach a lot of people take. I’d take one product at a time and find a greener option that works for you!

Which products would you like me to review? What do you want to learn more about? What questions do you have about green beauty?

**This post is not sponsored in any way, I just love sharing what I love! Full discloser: I did receive the MDSolarSciences Tinted Moisturizer as a gift, butI would never endorse a product that I wouldn’t use myself.**

  1. Review daily moisturizers please

  2. Which mascara? Less toxic

    1. I’ll write up a longer post about mascaras, but my current favorites are Lily Lolo and Kjaer Weiss. You can read more about them on my Katnip page.

  3. What facial cleanser do you use and what do you recommend?

    1. Thanks, Liz! I use a couple different cleansers depending on what I feel like my skin needs. My all-time favorite is the One Love Organics Vitamin B Cleanser that I wrote about here. I also like Acure’s cleansers. They have a few different ones and I think the Sensitive Skin cleanser is most like a traditional cleanser. It’s similar to the Aveeno Positively Radiant Cleanser. Even if your skin is oily, don’t be afraid to try an oil cleanser, they can be really luxurious!

      1. Thanks for the reply Kat! I will have to try the cleansing oil. I was wondering if you could give moe some more info on natural deodorants. I know that they will not be able to provide as much antiperspirant as “conventional” deodorants, but I was wanting to know which natural product will provide the most antiperspirant coverage.

        1. Let me know if you try the oil and how you like it! I am definitely going to do an upcoming post about deodorants. I’ve had a few other readers ask about them too!
