Top Tips for Winter Skin

Dry, parched skin is a universal problem and the winter season doesn’t do us any favors. The dry heat inside plus the cold wind outside is a recipe for confused, desperate skin!

Drink Water

You can’t underestimate the power of drinking water in the winter. Hydrating your skin from the inside out is key. No product can help you overcome dry skin if your skin isn’t moisturized from the inside. Add lemon, lime, or other fruits to spice it up if plain water seems too boring. Herbal tea can help too.

Limit Caffeine

Everyone loves a hot cup of coffee on a cold day but try to limit your caffeine consumption in the winter. Caffeine dehydrates you and pulls moisture from your skin. Not what we’re going for when we’re trying to add moisture back in!

Take a Warm Shower

This one is so hard for me! I love a nice, hot shower but in the winter it’s even more important to take a warm, not hot, shower.

Apply Body Oil to Damp Skin

Before you dry off completely after your shower, apply body oil. If you allow your skin to dry first, your pores will close up a bit more. Even better, take your body oil into the shower and apply it before you even towel off.

Oil Cleanse

I love oil cleansing my face all year but especially in the winter. Oil cleansing won’t strip your skin’s natural oils but will still cleanse your skin. I love One Love Organics Vitamin B Enzyme Cleansing Oil

Use a Balm

I use a balm at night to lock in moisture after I wash my face. And I don’t hold back, I slather it on! I also use a little bit each morning. Right now, I’m loving One Love Organics Skin Savor Multi-Tasking Wonder Balm. And it comes in a travel size in case you want to try it out. A little of this goes a long way so it will last forever.

Wash Your Face at Night

I recommend washing your face at night to remove makeup and dirt from the day but you likely don’t need to wash your face again right when you get it up. Just apply a toner and wipe off any residual oil in the morning with a cotton pad.

Exfoliate Sparingly

I like to use a gentle exfoliator once a week, but not more than that. If you exfoliate too often, you can pull more moisture from your skin, restarting the vicious cycle.

  1. I’ve been doing everything…and my skin is still dry. BUT I forgot about caffeine and what it does to cells. Yikes! I’m about that balm and oil cleanse life…that’s essential!

    1. Limiting my coffee intake is hard especially when it’s just so dang tasty but it does help!!
