My Story – Part 1

My Story Part 1 {crunchykat.com}

When I started this site, I never really explained why I started it. Or what I hoped to get out of it. Frankly, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted Crunchy Kat to be! (I’m still not always sure… ) But, I do know that I love having this creative outlet and I love trying to help people on their journey to eating better food and using better beauty products.

My Story – Part 1

I think it’s about time I tell you a bit more about me and why I spend time researching and writing posts here on Crunchy Kat.

Let’s Go Back to High School

High school is probably where my story begins as it relates to food, nutrition, and beauty. I’ve mentioned before that I used to spend all my money at Sephora, buying (read: hoarding) makeup that I’d only use occasionally. I loved the packaging, the colors, and testing it all in the store. And when I got home, I’d mostly just look at it. I didn’t wear much makeup but you’d never know that by looking in my bathroom. My drawers and cabinets were practically overflowing with barely-used products.

All that to say, I love researching new products and learning about what’s new in the beauty world.

Daily Stomach Aches

Around the same time, I started getting horrible stomach aches almost daily. I swam and played water polo in high school and I can remember days I felt so sick during practice that I would get out of the pool just to lay on the warm pool deck. Since I lived in Hawaii, the deck was always warm and I used the pool deck as a makeshift heating pad.

To this day, I never figured out what caused those stomach aches and they’ve come and gone since high school. And I’ve been on a quest since then to figure it out.

Why Food and Beauty?

I’m not trying to say that I think the products I bought caused my stomach aches, even though I do think what we put on our bodies matters. Instead, I highlight both components as a way to tell you that I’ve cared for a long time about what I put on my skin and what I put in my body.
